For National Careers Week, we’ve teamed up with WorldSkills to host an event where young professionals from industries like creative, business, and engineering share their journeys and celebrate diversity in technical careers. Speakers include representatives from Amazon, JCB, the Building and Engineering Services Association’s Next Gen Group, and Steer Automotive.

Meet Our Speakers:

  • Ella Witton-Stroud – Trainee Contracts Engineer at Narbeths Mechanical Services, started as an apprentice and is now completing her Level 4 HNC in Mechanical Building Services. She’s passionate about inspiring future engineers.
  • Nihal Dhillon – Level 6 Engineering Degree Apprentice at JCB, worked in Hydrogen Engineering before becoming Export Sales Manager, now leading a global team, showcasing the international opportunities of apprenticeships.
  • Kelsey Asante – Recent Level 4 Marketing Apprentice at JCB, now manages logistics for global events. They bring insights into brand marketing and campaign management.
  • Rosie Smith – Level 3 Apprentice Paint Technician at Steer Automotive, award-winning and set to finish her apprenticeship in March. She’s dedicated to inspiring future automotive professionals.
  • Maddy Mottram – Level 4 Marketing Apprentice at Amazon Fresh UK, chose an apprenticeship after A-levels to gain hands-on experience in digital, social, events, and PR. She’s thriving in a rotational program.

  • Lewis Kirby – Contractors Engineering Manager: Makes sure engineering work is done to a high standard and follows the rules on all projects.
  • Rebecca Twizell – Assistant Designer: Creates detailed designs for railway signalling systems, including changes and new installations.

We are excited to announce that applications for BCLP’s 2025 Career Kick Start Programme are now open. This two-week paid work experience is a fantastic opportunity for Year 12 students to gain first-hand insight into life at a leading City law firm.

 

The programme will take place in person at BCLP’s London office from 28 July to 8 August 2025, and we would love for your students to apply. Please find a summary of the programme below.

 

About the Programme

📌 Phase 1: Work Experience (28 July – 8 August 2025)

  • Week 1: Students will spend time at BCLP’s London office, learning about the daily work of lawyers, different career paths into law, and key employability skills.
  • Week 2: Students will visit a different BCLP client each day across a variety of industries, gaining an understanding of how law firms work with businesses and building their professional networks.

📌 Phase 2: Ongoing Mentorship & Support
After completing the programme, students will join BCLP’s Career Kick Start Alumni Programme, where they’ll receive continued mentoring and skills workshops.

 

Key Details

Please note BCLP monitor AI usage and, while they appreciate some students may want to use it to structure their answers, they discourage anyone from using AI extensively in their application forms.

 

What Will Students Gain From The Experience?

  • A clear understanding of what working as a lawyer in different organisations involves and the skills required. This will help you to decide if this is the career for you.
  • Practical advice to help you with future job applications.

Do you know students who are leaving Year 11 but don't know what to do next? If they fancy earning over £22k while they learn, the Tesco Stronger Starts Retail Apprenticeship could be for them.
