Richard Challoner School is a highly successful Catholic comprehensive school for boys aged 11-18 which has been serving the local Catholic community since 1959.
The school is a DfE designated Academy with Specialisms in Technology and Sports, it is heavily oversubscribed, with 4 applicants for each place available.
Canada comes to Challoner this summer as the KS3 Drama group presents a legend from Vancouver in British Columbia.
'The Legend of the Sea Serpent' is a story from the Squamish Nation, the tribes who lived and fished around the Fraser River which flows through Vancouver.
Some boys find themselves lost while trekking on summer camp. They meet a mysterious old tribesman who tells them the story of the Sea Serpent – a story of greed, gold and a two headed serpent who terrorizes the tribe…
This colourful and exciting new production includes pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 and features the lower school Drama Club.
View the video you saw in assembly this week HERE. This was made by Mr Amura a couple of years ago to celebrate the opportunities available to boys at Richard Challoner and to encourage them to get involved. It reflects the wide range of activities available that help to define a 'Challoner Boy'. The song is sung by two ex-students of the school.
Mr Cahill has informed students and staff that the school has gained Leading Edge Status. This designation only applies to high performing schools that meet certain other criteria including having been graded outstanding by OFSTED. There are only 220 Leading Edge schools in the UK out of a total of some 26,000 schools. Mr Cahill said this is a wonderful achievement for the school community and reflects the constant drive to improve outcomes for students and providing the very best of facilities for the students. The school , given its Technology College Status invests significant sums of money to ensure the school remains at the cutting edge of ICT and this is reflected in the easy access the students have to ICT.
